Kids
Love Spanish is a DVD series that intends to teach children basic
Spanish vocabulary. It features six-year-old Brock and his friends
saying the words, as well as Brock’s mom, Julie and his aunt, Krisse.
The educational series was created by the moms featured within who
happen to be sisters and best friends. A variety of methods of
entertainment and teaching are utilized including repetition, bright
colors, visual examples of each word and singing/music.
INDIVIDUAL CATEGORY RATINGS
|
Nothing quite as easy as a DVD! Pop it in the player,
click a button and you’re ready to go! Our panel
continues to love to review DVDs – easy, relaxing and
generally entertaining. Also, as also touched on by the
review team – it’s a DVD – so it can travel easily with
you if need be and be played in portable DVD players for
continuous learning. |

|
Basically, every DVD the panel reviews is going to get a
standard 4 stars in the durability category. Kids Love
Spanish packaging is somewhat unique in that all seven
DVDs fit in a single box keeping the discs easy to
organize. And as always, a couple of our children
jumped up to "help" by putting the DVD in the player –
once again a durability red flag (think fingerprints and
skipping). No different than any other DVD our team has
reviewed – this pretty much sums up our durability
issues, and as always, do everything you can to keep
your little one's fingers off the disc! |

|
For the most part the videos are bright, using a variety
of backgrounds throughout to captivate the audience.
The kids (“Brock’s friends”) and babies are all cute and
pleasing to watch. The Moms, Julie and Krisse, are
attractive women who light up the screen when it’s their
turn for singing or word pronunciation. |

Moms were a little concerned with just how much their
young ones would get out of the DVDs. They were
convinced that they would get everyday words – but
likely these DVDs would teach their child “Spanglish”
rather than its intended “Spanish”. There is a somewhat
extended “Kids Love Spanish” song that is continuously
sung in English – while catchy (we heard some of our
Moms singing it later in the day), it seemed to be a
little long and almost counteractive to the desire for
the children watching the video to be learning Spanish
(maybe it got them excited to learn?!). If you’re
looking for total Spanish immersion, this is not the DVD
for you; however, if you want your child to learn
selected vocabulary through bright shots and multiple
pronunciations, this may be the disc for you! |
|
|
If you break it down, purchasing seven DVDs at $99.99 is
approximately $14 per disc. Our moms found this to be a
little much for only about 30 minutes of showtime per
DVD. Each DVD does also come with the option of
continuous play as well as some extra music – so it’s
made a little more worthwhile! |

DVDs aren’t original…but this one, in the world of
Spanish instruction, is! Our Moms weren’t familiar with
other options out there that are as bright and
up-to-date in the learning Spanish world. Also, the
inclusion of so many children was refreshing and
entertaining! |

|
Our Moms certainly agree that it is important to
expose their children to foreign language(s) at an
early age – the benefits are impossible to dispute!
With that in mind, the Moms had a lengthy discussion
as to at what level they wanted their child(ren) to
learn – they didn’t feel that Kids Love Spanish was
going to make a Spanish speaker out of their child –
however, it would be a great, fun introduction to
the language. The cost may be a little high – but
the DVDs will keep playing and playing. If your
child is ready to start learning some basic Spanish
vocabulary – these are the discs for you! |
